Basti News: Police registers case against in-laws in four cases of dowry harassment

Police have registered a case against the in-laws in four cases of dowry harassment in different police station areas of the district. Giving a complaint at the Old Basti police station, Vasimunisha has told that she is married to Iqbal, a resident of Nagar Bazar of Nagar police station.


It is alleged that dowry was demanded in the in-laws’ house. He threatened to kill her by beating her if she did not get the dowry. SHO Alok Kumar Srivastava said that a case has been registered against four including husband Iqbal, mother-in-law Mehrunisha, sister-in-law Gulnaz alias Gulnar.


Zarina, a resident of Deokhar of Cantonment police station, has given a complaint to the women’s police station, alleging that she was taunted for bringing less dowry. The in-laws started demanding dowry. On protesting he was beaten up and tortured. Police arrested husband Rahmat Hussain, father-in-law Mohd. 

A case has been registered against Ali, mother-in-law Majudunnisha and sister-in-law Zarina. In the women’s police station, Rinka Tiwari, wife of Bhavpur Mahua Lakhanpur of Kaptanganj police station, has given a complaint alleging that she was harassed and abused for bringing less dowry to her in-laws’ house. Police have started investigation by registering a case against mother-in-law Chandravati, sister-in-law Vindhwasini and Vijayalakshmi on the basis of Tahrir. Manisha Chaudhary, a resident of Muradpur alias Belrai in Lalganj police station, has given a complaint alleging that the in-laws demanded two lakh rupees in dowry. For not completing it, he was beaten up and tortured. Police accused husband Dharmendra Chaudhary, mother-in-law Sheetal Devi.
